Join ICARA

As an umbrella organisation, our membership is open to research associations and individual researchers who are focused on alcohol, tobacco, other substances and addictive behaviours across the globe. We have three types of memberships. All members must complete a Declaration of Conflicts of Interest when applying for membership, and this must be updated on request of the ICARA Board.

As an ICARA member, you get contacted directly about all our upcoming events, have free access to our researcher networking tool and access to full recordings of our past events.

Full membership

This is open to legally capable associations that focus on alcohol, tobacco, other substances and addictive behaviours as a core activity, and which are based on personal membership. Full members pay appropriate fees and have the right to vote at ICARA’s biennial General Assembly (membership meeting). Thus, full members contribute to key governing decisions that help to steer ICARA’s future activities and policies. Member associations must nominate an individual who represents them in interactions with ICARA and such individuals must also complete a Declaration of Conflicts of Interests at the time of application for membership or nomination.

Please see the World Bank’s country classifications and choose your membership level on the registration page accordingly.

Associate membership

This is open to legally capable associations that support the aim of ICARA, but whose core activity is not focused on research on alcohol, tobacco, other substances and addictive behaviours. Associate members pay appropriate fees but cannot vote at ICARA’s biennial General Assembly. Member associations must nominate an individual who represents them in interactions with ICARA and such individuals must also complete a Declaration of Conflicts of Interests at the time of application for membership or nomination.

Please see the World Bank’s country classifications and choose your membership level on the registration page accordingly.

Individual membership

This is open to any researcher that focuses on alcohol, tobacco, other substances and addictive behaviours. Individual members do not pay fees and cannot vote at ICARA’s biennial General Assembly.
