ICARA is proud to announce our success in receiving a Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) Research Collaboration Grant for 2024. Our project, which aligns with our aim to support research capacity strengthening across the globe in relation to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) research, is entitled “Fostering Global South-Global North collaborations in alcohol research through enhancing the ICARA network”. Over the next year, we will enhance our website to function as a super networking tool for all our members, and conduct workshops that connects researchers from the Global South to the Global North.

ICARA Board opportunities 2023-25
On Monday 23rd October, ICARA will have its Annual General Meeting and General Assembly for 2023. The event takes place in Cape Town, South Africa. There are some Board roles up for elections during this event, which are available to ICARA members and researchers in the field of alcohol, tobacco, other drugs and behaviours such as gambling and vaping. We are proud to be hosting a hybrid research workshop at the Kettil Bruun Society 2023 Conference on Tuesday 6th June from 15.00-16.30 GMT+1.
The aim of the workshop is to discuss Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs (ATOD) research capacity strengthening needs in LMIC countries, as well as developing potential research partnerships with researchers from these countries. More information and & registration details here.
ICARA’s next annual general meeting will be held on Monday 23rd October 2023, one day before the 7th Global Alcohol Policy Conference (GAPC), at the Cape Town International Convention Centre 2, Cape Town, South Africa. All members are invited and details of the meeting will be published soon!
